The Manuscrit Missal in France
Authors
Laura Albiero
Based on Victor Leroquais’s catalogue of the sacramentaries and missals in the public libraries of France, the paper focuses on certain aspects of the missal produced in the French-speaking area, such as the type of missal (plenary, votive, festive), its possible connection with other types of books and the internal organisation of its contents. The need to clarify the relationship between the material structure of the manuscript and the text is emphasised, and some peculiarities in the indication of the solemnity of feasts are highlighted, as well as some problems of dating missals on the basis of the sanctoral.
